Monday, May 25. The 2020 Annual Independence Memorial Day Parade

The annual Memorial Day Parade is sponsored by the American Legion Moon Brothers Post 275 in cooperation with the City of Independence. The parade is held on Memorial Day (the last Monday in May) and starts promptly at 10:30 a.m. The starting point is at 1980 Declaration Dr. directly in front of Fire Station #1.

The parade route runs from the fire station (next to Memorial Park) to the Kenton County Courthouse. Registration is not required. However participants should arrive one hour prior to start of the parade and assemble in the Kroger area parking lots.

The American Legion will halt the parade at Independence Cemetery, St. Cecilia Cemetery, and the memorial at the Kenton County Courthouse. While halted the parade stops in place and a short prayer is read. The Legion will then fire a salute honoring those who died in service.

At the end of each parade there is an invocation read by the American Legion Chaplain and then a small speech given by a prominent person or the Grand Marshall of the parade. We ask that after the parade, you join us on the courthouse lawn to hear the speech.

At noon, the US Flag is raised to full staff.

Parking - Downtown street parking is not available. Parking is available at Kroger area parking lots, St. Cecilia Church, and north of US Bank in lots and side streets off KY 17.
