Burn ban in effect until September 30th
The Kentucky Environmental Protection Cabinet issued the annual burn ban which begins on May 1st and lasts until September 30th, 2018. This is an annual ban and must be adhered to during these months.
No open burning will be permitted except for those exceptions listed in the Burn Ban and or as permitted by certain city ordinances. You can read the law here.
For quick reference on common questions - you are ALLOWED to have open fires for the following unless your local government has a restriction in place.
- Outdoor backyard fire pits
- Fires set for the cooking of food for human consumption
- Fires set for recreational or ceremonial purposes
- Any other questions are answered in the ordinance
